About Me

Barbara Techel is the author of the multi-award winning Frankie, the Walk ‘N Roll Dog book series. When her dachshund, Frankie, suffered a spinal injury, Barbara had her custom-fitted for a wheelchair. Frankie persevered, and Barbara realized the beautiful opportunity she had to share Frankie and give others hope and inspiration to be the best they can be. Along with sharing Frankie’s story with children, Barbara and Frankie routinely volunteer as a therapy dog team at a local hospital, senior assisted facility, and hospice community, spreading joy wherever they go.

Frankie Inspires Wheelie Magnets from Silly Dog Magnets

Have I got some hot-diggity pawsome news for you!!  Brianna Lenox is a way cool artist who happens to love dogs... AND she really loves dachshunds and her best pal is, yup, you guessed it, a doxie named Chris P. Critter (is that cute, or what?).

Brianna, along with Chris P. Critter as her main inspiration, and right paw partner, started their own fun business called, Silly Dog Magnets.  Mom and I first heard about them on Who's Your Dachshund (dare I say our favorite doxie blog?) where her doxie magnets were featured.

After mom saw them she got so excited I couldn't contain her!  She was madly typing on the keyboard.. .and before I knew it she was hootin' and hollerin!  I perked my ears to say, "Hey Mom, what's going on?"

"Oh Frankie", she said.  "You'll never believe this!"

I wanted to say, "Try me," but patiently awaited her answer.

"Brianna from Silly Dog Magnets liked my idea to make magnets with doggie wheelchairs on them!"

So, that is the exciting news, as you see in the photo above!!  These magnets are inspired after me!  Isn't that way cool?  We will have them available on our website in the near future, but if you just have to have a set right now, we say head on over to Brianna's Etsy sight and get yourself a set!

Frankie, the Walk 'N Roll Dog Will Turn Ten Soon! Let's Celebrate!

Hard to believe with as cool as I look in these pink shades that I could possibly be turning 10 already... but it is oh, so true! The big day is Thursday, August 20th! So, let's celebrate the whole month of August. Hey, why not? Life is short, we must celebrate each and every day!

So here is the deal... the best gift I want is to be able to donate some money to a really, really awesome foundation that provides wheelchairs for animals who may not have the chance to have one and who really need one. It is Handicapped Pets Foundation. And you can help... and it is really easy to do... and it is FREE. How great is this?

So for every 50 NEW people who sign up to follow me via Facebook or Twitter we will donate $25.00 to Handicapped Pets Foundation. My goal (and cap) is 1,000 new followers which will mean $500 to the foundation! Oh, how that would make my tail wag if I can accomplish this. So here is how you can help.

Sign up to follow me on Facebook or Twitter. If you are already following me, please let your friends and family know about my fund raising efforts and see if they can help... tell them it is easy and free! You can share this post with them.

If you have a Facebook account you can help spread the word by posting this message:

Help Frankie, the Walk 'N Roll Dog raise money for Handicapped Pets Foundation simply by following her at http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/group.php?gid=93350378942

If you have a Twitter account you can share this with your Tweeple and ask them to Retweet, pretty please:

And there is one more way you can help if you'd like...

A portion of all book sales for the month of August will go to Handicapped Pets Foundation. If you have not gotten a copy of my NEW activity book, now would be a perfect time. And there is always my first book, Frankie, the Walk 'N Roll Dog which makes a great gift for anyone age 3-93 or any dachshund or dog lover.

It is a dog-gone honor to bring positive awareness to animals with disabilities and a foundation that helps disabled animals live long, happy, quality lives. So let's celebrate my birthday and all animals on earth! Arf-a-roo!!

Challenging Wheels

Question submitted by Mariah, age 10

Does Frankie have any challenges with her wheels?

Great question, Mariah! You know, at first I had a hard time figuring out how to get around furniture. Every five minutes I would be letting out a squeaky bark for my mom to help me get unstuck. Then one day I realized if I make a really wide sweep around the furniture, I don't get stuck. I also love to back up, so that helps too. :)
I also can't seem to judge doors into buildings for some reason. It never fails, I get one wheel stuck as I try to roll through. Luckily my mom is patient with me and always helps me through. I'm one lucky dog to have her for my mom.

More Frankie Friends

No matter where I go I seem to attract friends. Hmmm, could it be my wheels? My cute face? My spunky little personality? At any rate, I love all my friends! I have many friends in the neighborhood where I live and that makes my heart feel all mushy inside. A good kind of mushy. The other night two friends stopped over to say hi, so my mom asked if we could share their picture on my blog. Their parents granted permission so allow me to introduce Amber & Adi. Best friends who happen to love me. Awww, shucks. You girls are the best! Love you both too!

Frankie, Wheels and Snow

Question submitted by Kristen, Age 9

How does Frankie get around in the deep snow?

Two words: I don't. One of the best things about having wheels is that I don't have to go outside in the winter anymore to "do my thing" (that means going potty, since mom trained me to go on the toilet). I never did like the cold and the snow... burrrr... just too cold for a dog with 4-inch legs and belly so close to the ground. Though when I did have to go outside and "do my thing" my papa always shoveled a path for me, so I could run out fast, pee & poo, and then run like the dickens back into the house!
And besides that I don't have snow tires for my wheels, so I am lucky and stay cozy and happy in front of the gas fireplace all winter long. I know it's rough, but someones gotta do it, so might as well be me.
PS: Be sure and check out the post below about my new friend with wheels with the same name as me!!
