About Me

Barbara Techel is the author of the multi-award winning Frankie, the Walk ‘N Roll Dog book series. When her dachshund, Frankie, suffered a spinal injury, Barbara had her custom-fitted for a wheelchair. Frankie persevered, and Barbara realized the beautiful opportunity she had to share Frankie and give others hope and inspiration to be the best they can be. Along with sharing Frankie’s story with children, Barbara and Frankie routinely volunteer as a therapy dog team at a local hospital, senior assisted facility, and hospice community, spreading joy wherever they go.

Kid Tested and Approved!

Bookworm Gardens officially opened their garden gates this past weekend!  It was fun to see kids enjoying my dog house... though I'm unsure about them riding the "Frankie" statue of me.  I never did think of myself as a minature horse!  Arf!

Frankie Dog House for Children's Literature Garden

Construction has begun!

My papa was hard at work this past Sunday with his nail gun, table saw and lumber constructing my dog house that will be a part of  Bookworm Gardens, which is a beeeeautiful garden based on children's literature and it is in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.  Grand opening is October 16-17 in conjunction with Sheboygan Children's Book Festival with events at the Sheboygan Mead Library, surrounding schools and John Michael Kohler Arts Center.  It is going to be a grand weekend of fun!

Here's a sneak peek of my dog house, which will have a cathedral ceiling (oh my!) along with my name on the front and will be painted periwinkle (as if you thought it would be any other color!).  Stay tuned for updates on the progress...

First wall is complete!

Looks like papa is in the dog house again... tee hee

Inspecting papa's workmanship now that all four walls are done!

Bookworm Gardens

This is an amzing project happening right in the county that I live in.  And it is my humbled honor that I will be a part of this garden (thank you to my sponsors, The Richardson Foundation & David and Lynda Richardson).  My papa will be constructing my dog house, which will be featured in the garden, along with a stone replica of a dachshund fitted in a Eddie's Wheels cart that we donated (and that Eddie's Wheels gave us a special price on).  Stay tuned for photos later this summer.

My papa is involved also with Sheboygan County Home Builder's and is heading up the Charlotte's Barn project being built at Bookworm Gardens.  I'm so proud of him for being a part of the volunteer efforts to make this garden a reality.  Here is a photo of the beginning process of the barn.  Maybe Charlotte will make a special appearnce to thank them for their hard work!
